Nam Et–Phou Louey National Protected Area is located in the north-east of Laos. With an area of 4,229 km2, it is the largest of Laos’ national parks, covering seven districts and three provinces. Mostly hilly or mountainous, it is the source of many rivers. The area has primary forest remaining in many areas, a high level of biodiversity, and a number of endangered species including tiger, gaur, Sambar deer, and white-cheeked gibbon.
Nam Ha National Protected Area is located in the northern province of Luang Nam Tha. The protected area is a mixture of deciduous forest; with a range of mountains running to the border with China along the top of this are mainly dry evergreen forest and some grassland. It’s home to at least 38 species of large mammals, over 300 bird species, of which, over 22 mammal species are endangered including clouded leopard, tiger and black-cheeked crested gibbon, one of the rarest gibbon species. There are small populations of gaur, Asian elephant and possibly a unique munity species.
Best time to go:
Dry season in Laos starts from October and ends in April. Rainy season is marked with “Pimai” water festival - the traditional Lao New Year. Dry season is the best time for travelling in Laos and it’s also peak season for tourism in three Indochina Countries: Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

This tour can be 14 days/13 nights. We will focus on Northern and Northeastern Laos including Luang Prabang, Vieng Thong, Nam Et-Phou Louey National Park, Nong Kiau, Luang Nam That, Nam Ha National Park, and Muong Sing. You will spend first 2 nights in Luang Prabang before driving to Vieng Thong in Northeastern Laos, one night there. Join in a trekking tour with one night in Bamboo hut and one night in Bamboo hut. Back to Vieng Thong for one more night and then a 2 day/1 night safari in Nam Et-Phou Louey National park, overnight in Bamboo hut. Leaving this park behind, you will travel further to the North, one night in Nong Kiau, one night in Luang Nam Tha. Trek in the National Park of Nam Ha and again one night in bamboo hut, two more nights in Luang Nam Tha, drive to Muong Sing, a border-gate town with China. Back to Luang Prabang for the 13th night and fly home.
